Monday Practice Report

FOOTBALL

The Dawgs began preparations for Vanderbilt today with an hour-long practice under the lights at the Woodruff Practice Fields.

The Dawgs improved to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the SEC with last Saturday's victory over Tennessee. Already at 1-1 in the SEC, Vanderbilt moved to 2-3 overall with a victory over Eastern Michigan last week.

The Dawgs went back to their usual Monday routine of conditioning, special teams and installation. Last Monday, Georgia's players put on full pads.

"I knew we were going to do that. I don't think we can afford to splatter into each other on Mondays and Tuesdays the rest of the season," coach Mark Richt said. "We can't afford to have guys get hurt. So we went back to a normal Monday. (Tuesday) will be a very physical day. We'll tackle to the ground and do all the things we need to do to get better fundamentally."

Asked if winning on Saturday changed the attitude of the team on Monday, Richt said, "When you lose, people think things are worse than they are. And when you win, people think it's better than it is. We have gotten better, but we've still got things to correct and get better."

The captains for Saturday's game will be Clint Boling, Justin Houston, Brandon Boykin and Demarcus Dobbs.

Quarterback Aaron Murray was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman Player of the Week.

Against Tennessee, Murray went 17-of-25 for 266 yards and a pair of touchdowns with no interceptions. He also accounted for a pair of rushing scores, including a career-long 35-yard scamper.

The Saturday, Oct. 23, game between Georgia and Kentucky in Lexington will be televised by Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS) with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
