Pair Of Dawgs Earn Academic All-District Honors

FOOTBALL

Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray and snapper Ty Frix have been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District football team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

This marks the second consecutive year that both Murray and Frix have garnered this honor.

They rank among the nation’s top student-athletes who now have been recognized for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. District winners advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration, and that team is announced on December 6th.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 GPA or higher and have participated in at least 50 percent of their team’s games. The Dawgs and Auburn led the way from the Southeastern Conference with two selections apiece on the 22-member All-District 4 squad.

Murray, a Tampa, Florida, native, graduated in May 2012 with a GPA of 3.30 in Psychology and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Psychology. He is the SEC’s leading active player in total offensive yards (8,873), completions (610), TD responsibility (90, which is tied for fifth SEC history), TD passes (a school record 80, which is sixth in SEC history) and passing yards (8,646).

In Murray’s 24 wins as a starter, he has 60 TDs to just 15 interceptions. This season, he is 163-for-251 for 2,448 yards and 21 touchdowns with seven picks.

Frix, a Calhoun native, graduated Magna Cum Laude in Biological Engineering in May 2012 and is now pursuing his MBA degree. He has been accepted for medical school for Fall 2013. Frix won a Peach of an Athlete Award for the state of Georgia, honoring those who excel in academics, athletics and community service. He also earned football's overall Scholar-Athlete Award and won the 2012 Dick Copas Leadership Award.

Frix is a four-year starter at snapper. He snapped to current NFL starters Drew Butler and Blair Walsh for three years.
