Lady Dawgs Tabbed Second In SEC By Coaches

BASKETBALL

The 14 Southeastern Conference women's basketball coaches have predicted Georgia will finish second in the league in 2012-13. The coaches also named three Lady Dawgs preseason All-SEC in balloting announced on Tuesday.

Seniors Anne Marie Armstrong and Jasmine Hassell were named first-team All-SEC, while classmate Jasmine James was a second-team selection. Georgia and Vanderbilt were the only two teams with three honorees.

Armstrong and Hassell previously were first- and second-team preseason All-SEC selections, respectively, in voting of a panel of national and regional media.

Coaches were not allowed to vote for their team or players. In team predictions, 13 points were awarded for a first-place vote descending to one point for a 13th-place ballot. Georgia collected 149 points. Kentucky received 167 points. Trailing the Dawgs and rounding out the predictions were Texas A&M (145), Vanderbilt (143), Tennessee (117), South Carolina (102), LSU (96), Florida (92), Arkansas (72), Auburn (57), Mississippi State (51), both Alabama and Missouri (33) and Ole Miss (17).

The Lady Dawgs, who are ranked No. 10 in the Associated Press and No. 11 in the USA Today/ESPN preseason polls, will open their 2012-13 season this Sunday when they host Rutgers at 2 p.m. at Stegeman Coliseum. Rutgers' C. Vivian Stringer is the winningest active major college women's basketball coach, while Georgia's Andy Landers is third on the same ledger. Landers (877) and Stringer (885) have a combined 1762 career victories between them.

The first 2,000 fans at Sunday's game will receive a throwback t-shirt celebrating the 50th anniversary of Stegeman Coliseum, and the popular act Simon Sez will perform during halftime.

Season tickets for Georgia's 16-game home slate are just $40. Single-game reserved seat tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children. Both season and single-game tickets are available via georgiadogs.com, by calling the UGA Ticket Office at 877-542-1621 or at the Butts-Mehre Ticket Office from 8:30-4:30 on weekdays. In addition, tickets go on sale at Stegeman Coliseum box office (closest to Sanford Drive) beginning 60 minutes before tip-off of all home games.
