FOOTBALL

CSC_4337Georgia junior A.J. Green has been named one of 10 semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award, which is given annually to the nation’s top collegiate receiver.

This marks the second year in a row that Green has been named a semifinalist for the award. Green is one of four players from the Southeastern Conference who was named to the list. The last player to win the award from the SEC was in 2001 (Josh Reed, LSU).

Voting to determine the top three finalists will take place through Nov. 21 with the finalists being announced on Nov. 22. The presentation of the Biletnikoff Award will be featured on The Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards live on Dec. 9 on ESPN.

Green, a 6-4, 212-pound native of Summerville, S.C., has recorded 41 catches for 674 yards receiving (96.3 yds./game) and nine touchdowns in only seven games this season. Green has seven 100-yard receiving games in his career, including three in 2010, and is now No. 2 on Dawg history with 23 career receiving touchdowns.

He posted his most impressive performance of the season at #2 Auburn over the weekend. Green snagged a career-high nine passes for a season-high 164 yards and two touchdowns against the Tigers.

Thanks in large part to Green’s presence, Georgia has scored 30 or more points in six consecutive games for the first time in school history.
