Dribble Dawgs Win

BASKETBALL

Georgia opened victorious on its new and improved home court on Friday night, beating Morehouse, 74-50. Senior guard Gerald Robinson Jr. led the way for Georgia, as he tallied 20 points, handed out six assists and registered three steals en route to the victory over Morehouse.

Freshman forward Nemanja Djurisic and senior guard Dustin Ware paced the Dawgs with 12 points and eight points, respectively. Sophomore forward Marcus Thornton led the Dawgs on the boards with six rebounds.

“It was a good first outing,” coach Mark Fox said. “We got a lot of guys a lot of experience that they needed. The key will be to try and get better from here.”

Midway through the first half, Georgia jumped out to a 20-4 lead off of an alley-oop dunk from Robinson, assisted by freshman guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

Georgia’s defense, which held Morehouse to only ten points until the 4:38 mark in the first half, forced 19 turnovers on the night.

Georgia reached its biggest lead of the contest at the 6:35 mark in the second half off a Gerald Robinson lay-up.

All 14 Dawgs saw action, including six for the first time in their careers.

The Dawgs open the 2011-12 regular season next Friday, Nov. 11, vs. Wofford. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. at Stegeman Coliseum. The game will be preceded by the Georgia Lady Dog’s season opener vs. TCU at 6:00 p.m. For ticket information, go to Georgiadogs.com.
